Dr John Cooper Clarke – The Luckiest Guy Alive Tour

Coming to Preston Guild Hall with all his wit, wisdom, and wisecracking punk poetry, it’s the one and only Dr John Cooper Clarke.

The Luckiest Guy Alive Tour debuts the first new book of poetry from the esteemed Dr in several decades; The Luckiest Guy Alive. His new work is a brilliant collection of poetry influenced by our modern era. From the ‘Attack of the Fifty Foot Woman’ to a hymn on the seductive properties of the humble pie, The Luckiest Guy Alive Tour will have it all. Hand-grenade haikus, rapid-fire ballads, and possibly an informal meditation on the loss of Bono’s leather pants. Plus we’re sure he’ll recite some fan-favourites such as ‘Evidently Chickentown’, ‘Beasley Street’, ‘I Wanna Be Yours’, and others.

It needs little confirmation that Cooper Clarke’s status as the ‘Emperor of Punk Poetry’ is still intact after a 40 year career. He is an extraordinary versifier, a man of incredible wit, and is brilliantly good at bringing poetry to the masses. He has influenced a vast number of people through his writings and performances, notably the Arctic Monkey’s Alex Turner, who takes inspiration from Cooper Clarke’s poetry when writing his own lyrics. The Luckiest Guy Alive Tour is set to be a wonderfully compelling performance by one of Britain’s greatest poets.

‘John Cooper Clarke is one of Britain’s outstanding poets. His anarchic punk poetry has thrilled people for decades … long may his slender frame and spiky top produce words and deeds that keep us on our toes and alive to the wonders of the world.’ Sir Paul McCartney

Under 16’s to be accompanied by adult 18+
