Rock FM hosted the ‘Time to Shine’ awards on Thursday 9^th February in the Blackpool Tower Ballroom. This awards ceremony, supporting the Bauer Radio’s network charity Cash for Kids, celebrates the best of our local community.

We were delighted to be invited to attend the event, and to have been nominated for the ‘Corporate Supporter of the Year’ award. It was then a great honour to win the award on the night!

Cash for Kids responds to the needs of children in our communities so they can live life to the full and realise their individual potential. Based across 22 areas in the UK, they support children aged 0 -18 who are disabled, disadvantaged or suffering from abuse or neglect. Grants are awarded and go towards buying specialist equipment for children to enhance their quality of life. They are given to children’s charities and organisations to help them undertake projects and new initiatives or to ensure that much needed services can continue to provide essential care and support.

All the money raised on behalf of Cash for Kids stays in the area it was raised in, providing a helping hand when and where it is needed most. Thanks to the kind help and support of the community, they are able to make a massive difference to the lives of the children that need help across the UK.

Preston Guild Hall have been supporting the charity for three years and have raised a total of £30,000 in this time. We will continue to do as much as we can to help and support the charity and give back to our local community.

In the ceremony, which took place in The Grand Hall, Ranvir became the University’s third Chancellor and Professor Mike Thomas the University’s fourth Vice-Chancellor.

Ranvir was brought up in Preston, completing a Postgraduate Diploma in Broadcast Journalism at UCLan in 2000. She is now known to millions a presenter on Good Morning Britain, ITV Evening News and News at Ten, and the Tonight programme.  She also has her own primetime series for ITV, Real Stories with Ranvir Singh. In 2013 she received a UCLan Honorary Fellowship for her contribution to broadcasting. In 2015 she was Asian Media Personality of the Year.

For Professor Mike Thomas the ceremony symbolised the completion of his first year as UCLan’s Vice-Chancellor.  It was a year in which he oversaw the University’s move into the top 3.7% of all worldwide universities and further established Central Lancashire’s position as an anchor institution within the local community, helping support the development of Preston as a whole – what a great start to 2017 for our City!

Plans submitted by The Frank Whittle Partnership (FWP) to convert the basement and ground floor levels of the venue into a ten-pin bowling alley, nine-hole crazy golf course, karaoke booths, a sports bar and dining room were approved by Preston City councilors yesterday (8 September 2016).

The project, developed for the Guild Hall’s owner The Rigby Organization, will see a new entrance on Lord Street – directly facing the city’s iconic Bus Station, where a £23m Youth Zone and new piazza are being built.

Preston-based architects’ practice FWP has created a “masterplan” for the gradual redevelopment of the 1970s venue, which involves the creation of restaurants and bars.

The latest Guild Hall attraction will be called the LeVel and FWP has been appointed to carry out the full design work.

The new venue aims to “breathe life” back into the former Morrison’s supermarket site that has been empty for years.

Seb Salisbury, FWP’s architect, said: “We are really excited by this next phase in the redevelopment of the Guild Hall. The internal basement and ground floor areas will be totally transformed by the creation of a fantastic new boutique bowling leisure facility.

“LeVel will create a vibrant new offering in Preston city centre and help to further establish the reputation of the Guild Hall as a destination leisure attraction.”
